Our School

Okinawan Karate Black Belt Academy (aka Okinawan Karate) was founded in 1994 and has since become the finest Shorin-Ryu school in the Bremerton/Silverdale area, dedicated to making your Martial Arts experience successful, enjoyable and satisfying. Our instructors are simply the best. They've studied and trained for years to qualify to become part of the Okinawan Karate Black Belt Academy (OKBBA) Instructor Team, and their primary goal is to assist you in being the very best you can be. 

At OKBBA, we (all) take great pride in our school, its’ members (our family), and the tradition of excellence it represents.  This dedication to the continuance of tradition is apparent and strong in our members. 

Our carefully organized and structured programs go well beyond punching, blocking and kicking. We’ll help you attain highly effective self-defense skills, and provide you with a comprehensive personal development program. One of our instructor goals is to raise the quality of life for all our students in every way possible.

We pledge to make each student’s journey as fun, exciting and educating as possible. We observe our student’s progress closely and assist each student every step of the way. We believe that being a Martial Artist is not just learning to kick and punch, it’s about delevoping the Mind, Body and Spirit, becoming the very best that you can be in every way.

Our current enrollment is 100+ students, and growing, ranging in age from three to eighty-five!  We offer private and group lessons for all ages.  Special Events include; Sparring Challenges, Self-defense classes, and seminars such as Okinawan weapons, Living Arnis, Chinese staff, Kung Fu, and also other family events. We also host birthday parties!

OKBBA is a Washington State non-profit organization. Under our corporate structure, Sensei Guy Shinkaruk is President; Donna Cressman is Vice-President and General Manager; Patricia Monahan is Secretary; and Tom Cressman is Treasurer. Each understands the importance of offering programs that change the lives of those whom they come in contact with, and they're dedicated to working hard for you. We look forward to getting to know you, and helping you improve yourself and your lifestyle!
