Our Instructors

Our OKBBA instructors and assistants are currently lead by Lead Instructor, Sensei Daren Stanley.  Our instructors and assistants are carefully selected and have grown and developed under the highest level of quality instruction, studying the traditional art of Matsumura Seito Shorin-Ryu, Okinawan Kobudo, Kung fu and Tai Chi.

Our instructors and assistants strive to be, and are required to be, professional, disciplined, approachable, and caring.  They have proven to possess a true love for teaching the Okinawan Karate martial arts, and each are truly committed to enriching our community one student at a time. "Firm, Fair and Fun" is the instructor motto at OKBBA.

Lead Instructor: Sensei Daren Stanley - 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shorin-Ryu Karate:
Sensei Stanely has over 12 years experience in the Martial Arts and 10 years with                                                       Matsumura Seito Shorin-ryu. Sensei Stanley currently studies directly under Hanshi Philip Keoppel of the USKK located in Peroria, IL. Master Koeppel is the President and founder of the USKK established in 1986.

Guest Instructors/Subject Matter Experts (SME):

Grand Master Isidro Archebeque - SME Self Defense Techniques. GM "Archie" is a 10th degree in Gun Fu and is a Northwest legend. We're honored that GM "Archie" has taken a liking to us and our school. His periodic visits to our school honor us greatly.

Sigung Roy Kauffroath - SME Sam Pai Kenpo & Living Arnis. Master Kauffroath is versed in mulpitle arts including Kenpo, Arnis and Gun Fu. Master Kauffroath is a close friend to GM "Archie" and we're honored that he has also taken a liking to us and our school as well. His regular visits to our school honor us greatly.

Sensei John Harding - SME Brazilian Jujitsu and grappling. Sensei Harding has over 12 years experience in BJJ under Sensei Marcelo Alonso. Marcelo Alonso has schools in Federal Way and Puyallup and he trained directly under Carlson Gracie in Brazil.

Sensei Bill Kortenbach - SME Okinawan Weapons. Sensei Kortenbach is a 6th degree black belt in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate. Sensei Kortenbach studied directly under Northwest legend, Steve Armstrong. O'Sensei Armstrong studied directly under the founder of Isshinryu, Master Tatsuo Shimabuku. Sensei Kortenbach's periodic visits to our school honor us greatly.
